Abandoned US Cemeteries

Many graves have been abandoned in the USA as well as the world over. There are many reasons for this. The owner may have passed away and the family has forgotten it ever existed. In other cases, families have run out of space, moved away or failed to pay mortgages or property taxes. All that is left are abandoned gravestones, aging and finally becoming derelict.

Graveyards Running out of Space

Now we are entering a phase where entire graveyards are running out of space. As our population grows we need more land to bury our dead. This is why people in many countries have resigned themselves to cremation as a solution.

Some places, especially in Europe, have resorted to lowering the original casket another 6 feet or so and then placing a new one on top. Maybe in fifty to a hundred years one will be saying “Hello Neighbor” to someone you don’t know.

Solar Farms Looking for Land

Solar Farms are searching for land so they can cut down on using up dwindling resources and work towards more green solutions than the present fossil fuel consuming ones.

Mall of Hope’s Solution to Both These Issues of Land Consumption.

There may be another way to deal with the land shortage besides solar farms and cemetery space. It’s possible we could revolutionize the way we view the whole situation and ensure a scenario where graveyards could support their overhead and avoid the issue of abandonment.

Imagine, if you will, a pavilion between rows of graves where individuals could walk and be protected from the weather. The roofs could act like a power grid, and the graveyard receive a small payment in return.  With this added possibility for income the costs of burial plots could be somewhat lowered. And if done correctly, it could become the new normal and help offset upkeep costs for graveyards. A simple agreement between power companies and cemeteries would be all it takes.

If combined with information from Cherish These Words a brand of Meshfire's Mall and Services,  a Facebook Page, which describes itself as a way ‘… to keep hold of your loved ones in a virtual way…’, this would provide a whole new way of honoring our departed loved ones. It would allow us never to forget them while simultaneously being able to hear their voices again.

And these suggestions would provide a safer situation in which to walk when we are visiting- in addition to contributing to a cleaner tomorrow. We should also be aware that this solution provides 40% of Net Profits to help support Mall of Hope, as it is another way we can ensure self-sustaining nonprofit charitable work. And we can do this without constantly bothering people for donations- as frequently happens with other nonprofits.
