Pet Insurance
Pet Insurance in its basic level is depending on what provider you pick the sum of what you would expect from health insurance, life insurance, car insurance, home insurance and dental all in one. Just it happens to be focused primarily on your dog or cat.
This does not mean that other pets are not considered like horses or snakes but it does not guarantee that those pets will be considered after all its not common to have other types of pets in nearly every home.
Now I know that it may seem strange to list all those insurances together like that have nothing to do with your pets. But if you get to the core of what they offer you'll see the similarity between them. If you rent a home and are required to have renters insurance its like how some pet insurances offer if your pet damages someones property you can file a claim to help cover the costs of the damaged goods.
Then you have normal dental and health insurance like for people but for pets. If anything happens to your pet that you need to pay for like unexpected need for a surgery due to an accident or whatever you are covered.
Honestly speaking its cheaper for our furry friends to get help than it is for us to have health insurance. Our pets might not like going to the veterinary clinic or office but for some these pets are like our kids.
In addition, some providers do offer the ability to get help with finding your lost pet or if your pet passes away. A List of Providers who Offer Pet Insurance are as follows;
- Lemonade
- Spot
- Pumpkin
- Pawp
- ASPCA
- Prudent Pet
- Embrace
- Petplan
- Healthypaws
- Walmart
- TrustedPals
- FIGO
- Eusoh
- Geico
Pet Assistance Programs
There are so many pet assistance programs out there currently that are worth checking out. Now mind you no one solution is the only solution we need, as all solutions are needed depending on the situation. All situations are unique and there for what solution may work for one person might not work for someone else.
I do suggest when you are considering what program to get help from or who to acquire pet insurance from you do your research. Look at reviews, check the better business bureau but do know that not all companies will be recognized in the BBB. Because to be in there costs several thousand dollars and startups might not be able to afford this.
This is especially true for mom and pop, single office or store locations type deal. Also even after you get pet insurance you should shop around see who will accept and give you the lowest price after all you will already be paying $30 - $50 a month per pet with your insurance provider.
So it is important that you look around and see what option is best for you and your present need or concern. Here is a small list of well known Pet Assistance Programs;

Mall of Hope's Take on a Pet Assistance Program
Now it is important to note that Mall of Hopes take on the whole situation of Pet Assistance Programs is very different to what is already out there. However, we are more focused on individuals in the following order of who needs the help most to least.
Veterans with PTSD
Individuals who Suffer with Depression
Disabled Individuals who need a Service Pet
Veterans
Elderly
Low Income Families
We feel this is the appropriate order of who should get help first to last. Now how we view how the program should be created with the highest success, while being revolutionary in its own right is as follows;
First step is finding Veterinary Clinics across the USA who would be interested in teaming up in an effort to provide a self sustained direct 100% to cause pet assistance programs not requiring donations to support the non profit program above the setup costs.
After finding these Veterinary Clinics willing to work with us on this project we would have a sit down meeting so to speak but it would be through a third party provider like Zoom or Get Response Webinars. So a discussion can be put in place, thus enabling us to iron out the details as well as find a fair value assessment in the costs for each procedure and the like that veterinary clinics provide our furry friends.
We would then identify what parameters do we all agree should be in place to prevent misuse of this team up. Where individuals in need can get help with supporting their pets health where the owner might have trouble paying for it with or without the above items available based on the individual case by case based scenario.
After all these individual pieces are put in place then presenting what was put together infront of a legal firm to help ensure proper handling of the Non Profit side of this as well as the protection to cause regulations from both legal side as well as the IRS requirements for 501c3 Non Profits in Reporting.
Then having another get together to go over these aspects and get everyone who wants to be on board to sign agreements to this affect. A sample of how this could look is an individual is a veteran with ptsd and cannot afford a surgery for his dog Max. The surgery is crucial because it assures the likelihood of the pets survival.
We can say that perhaps this surgery is going to costs between $3,000 and $4,000 just for purposes of explanation. The individual fills out a form at the Veterinary Clinic and the Clinic fills out their part.
The price that was agreed upon in the council of veterinary clinics says the value in total is worth $2812 because perhaps the costs under the pretense of no extenuating circumstances is that value averaged across all the USA states and that this situation is taking place in lets pretend New York.
Since its one of the most costly states in the USA, the clinic calls up Mall of Hope giving a basic run down of what it is, the situation and so forth. Mall of Hope approves this and the veterinary clinic provides the care necessary to help the dog Max be okay.
Pictures before the dog was admitted into the surgery and after as well as a pdf are uploaded to the site Mall of Hope and a receipt is issued to the Veterinary Clinic for a tax deductible donation in the equivalent amount.
Again this is the just a basic view of the goal not how it can be legally done. End of year comes and they put this into their taxes. This method provides a 100% to cause program through a non profit utilizing a community of veterinary clinics and they control what they want to provide in free service through this system.
Perhaps they input what it is based on what the prior years revenue was and create an estimate of what they expect the present year will be. Now in terms of donations placed in this program from donations to the non profit it drops down from 100% to 90% of donation to cause as now the upkeep costs has increased.
Where say the veterinary clinic had reached its limit or was close to reaching what it was willing to do they say that we can do only up to $2,000 of it but then we are done for the year. Can you fund the last $812 in which now they receive a receipt for just 2k donation and receive a check for $812 and the non profit receives a receipt for services rendered for so and so.
The reason for that change is now they are not covering the whole thing but rather partial. Now lets pretend this veteran finds out that they are out of funds for the year but you can inquire by submitting a form online to the non profit.
This person fills it out, we receive the form and determine the situation requires immediate assistance. We would call up the clinic and say we will fund the full costs of the surgery. Then we would pay for that surgery based on what the fair value assessment was that was negotiated in the council of veterinary clinics using the funds in the support fund for this program.
